Owing to his status as one of WWE’s most prolific performers in history, Dwayne Johnson has wrestled a who’s who of exemplary wrestlers throughout his time. From WrestleMania clinics vs. Hulk Hogan and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, to personal showdowns opposite Mankind and Triple H, ‘The Brahma Bull’ is no stranger to a tough test.
One test he unfortunately never got to take, though, was against the incomparable ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage. The WWE Hall of Famer tragically passed away in 2011 after suffering a heart attack.
Taking to Instagram, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson revealed how a match vs. Savage was always a dream encounter for him, posting alongside the caption a photo of him wearing a classic pair of ‘Macho Man’ shades.
During The Rock’s rise to prominence in the late nineties, Randy Savage was signed to World Championship Wrestling, removing any possibility of a possible match between the two icons of their respective eras.
Who Was Dwayne Johnson’s Final WWE Opponent?
A pillar of the Attitude Era, Dwayne Johnson was regularly featured in the main event scene, a role he continued in through the beginning of the Ruthless Aggression era. He wrestled what appeared to be his final bout at WrestleMania XX in March 2004, reuniting The Rock’n’Sock Connection with Mick Foley as they lost to the Evolution trio of Randy Orton, Batista, and Ric Flair.
Unveiled as the guest host of WrestleMania XXVII in February 2011, however, The Rock ultimately wrestled a handful of matches across a two-year period, beginning at that November’s Survivor Series pay-per-view. Losing the WWE Championship to John Cena at ‘Mania XXVIII, The Rock last wrestled four years later at the thirty-second ‘Showcase of the Immortals’, handily defeating Erick Rowan in a matter of seconds.
He’s currently rumoured to return ahead of WrestleMania 39, facing his cousin Roman Reigns.
