Dwayne Johnson Makes Major Announcement Regarding The Future Of The XFL

Ten-time WWE Champion Dwayne Johnson has made a major announcement about the future of the XFL.

In a major development for spring football, the XFL and USFL have announced plans to merge into one league, aiming to establish themselves as the premier post-NFL gridiron action providers.

Co-owner of the XFL, Dwayne Johnson, revealed the merger in a post on X, with the goal of creating a league that offers top-notch operations and resources for the collective players, coaches, and staff.

While details about the merger are scarce, including the league’s name and team structure, both the XFL and USFL currently have eight franchises each. It remains to be seen whether all franchises will continue, if any will cease operations, or if new teams will be added.

Johnson is optimistic about the future and had previously announced a second season for the league.

When Did Dwayne Johnson Buy The XFL?

Dwayne Johnson alongside his business partner and ex-wife, Dany Garcia, purchased the XFL for $15 million in August of 2020 after the league filed for bankruptcy while under the leadership of Vince McMahon.

In 2023 the XFL saw its second season since it’s 2020 reboot after its initial failure in 2001. After the 2023 season concluded, Sports Illustrated reported that the XLF reported losses of over $60 million from the 2023 season. However, Johnson remained positive about the future of the XLF despite the massive losses and assured fans that he is determined to stay the course.
