Beginning his rise to worldwide superstardom as a multi-time World Championship-winning WWE Superstar, Dwayne Johnson is now one of the most recognisable faces in the world. At present, he’s more renowned for his acting work, most recently starring in Black Adam as the titular character. Outside of the sports entertainment and acting realms, though, ‘The Brahma Bull’ has several other endeavours.
One of those is American football, being the owner of the XFL. Purchasing the company with ex-wife and business partner Dany Garcia in August 2020, Dwayne Johnson oversaw a change in logo design and brand identity for the league, though this led to a legal run-in with TogetherXR, a company co-owned by World Cup winner Mega Rapinoe.
New XFL Logo Led To Legal Issues For Dwayne Johnson
When the new logo for the XFL dropped, it quickly led to a barrage of outrage from employees at TogetherXR. Megan Rapinoe, one of the owners of the business, particularly took issue with the ‘X’ of the logo, as it closely resembled that of their own business design.
Posting to Twitter, the Olympic gold medalist referenced Dwayne Johnson’s iconic WWE catchphrase, while stating that a new brand identity will need to be designed for the XFL to avoid further legal issues:
“Welp. This is awkward. Only thing @TheRock and @XFL2023 are gonna be cookin up is a response to the Cease and Desist and an ENTIRE new brand ID. @togethxr got this on lock boys.”

The XFL’s most recent season – taking place between February and March 2020 – marked the final season under Vince McMahon’s ownership. They filed for bankruptcy that April, four months before the new management team took ownership of the league. February 18, 2023 is currently penciled in as the start date for the first season under Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital’s leadership.
