Dwayne Johnson Broke Down In Tears Following Incredible Gift From AEW Talent

The Rock Dwayne Johnson

Before going onto megastardom in WWE as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson spent a brief period in the United States Wrestling Association based in Memphis, Tennessee.

While there, he wrestled under the name Flex Cavana and saw success in the tag division, teaming with Bart Sawyer. The pair won the USWA Tag Team Championships twice before Johnson moved on to WWE in the summer of 1996.

During a recent interview with Chris Jericho on Talk is Jericho, Dan Lambert – who led American Top Team against Jericho in AEW – revealed that at one point he owned one of the tag belts that Johnson had held.

He went on to explain that he gifted the item to the star when they met during the filming of an MMA-related reality show, a gesture that moved The Rock to tears.

“I actually had the first title The Rock ever held for a while, which was the USWA Tag Title, and he came to our gym to film some reality show he was doing — MMA-related — and I actually gave him that belt. And he was like in tears getting that first belt. It meant that much to him.”

Why Dwayne Johnson isn’t competing at WrestleMania 39

These days, Johnson has all but left his in-ring career behind him. One much-anticipated match would have seen him take on Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. However, the bout was not to be.

In a recent interview, The Tribal Chief’s Special Counsel, Paul Heyman, explained that he didn’t think the match was ever likely due to The Rock’s hectic schedule, which wouldn’t allow time for him to get into ring shape.

“I never spoke to Dwayne about this year’s WrestleMania. I always heard his name being thrown around. I couldn’t imagine with his schedule, his promotional schedule, launch of the XFL, all the projects that he has on his plate, that he would be able to take the time to get back into what we would call ring shape,

“Could he run a marathon? I don’t know, maybe. I’m sure he has great cardio, but cardio itself and cardio in the ring and being in ring shape are two completely different things.”
