Dutch Mantell Slams Recent “Happy Talk” Segment On SmackDown

Happy Talk - Baron Corbin & Madcap Moss

Dutch Mantell has branded the “Happy Talk” segment on a recent episode of SmackDown the worst in-ring segment he’s ever seen.

On the December 17th episode of SmackDown, Happy Corbin and his sidekick Madcap Moss hosted another instalment of “Happy Talk.” This time the set came complete with the desk containing Drew McIntyre’s sword which the pair had stolen from Adam Pearce’s office the previous week.

After telling their usual jokes and mocking McIntyre, the pair each attempted to remove the sword from the desk. This eventually brought the Scottish Warrior to the ring, who reclaimed his sword before taking a swing at Corbin and Moss. During the segment the Chicago crowd chanted for CM Punk.

Later on in the show, McIntyre was shown looking for the pair, while they hid. However, they were tracked down and interviewed backstage, where Corbin nominated Moss to face the former WWE Champion at Day 1.

Reflecting on the segment with Sportskeeda, Dutch Mantell described it as the “worst in-ring segment he’s ever seen.”

“That’s the worst in-ring segment I’ve ever seen. These jokes bombed, I didn’t even know what he was talking about. It was just a bad, bad in-ring segment. Even Drew McIntyre coming out at the end couldn’t save it. It is what it is, and it sucked.”

“The top of the hour is where you don’t want to lose them [viewers] because that’s when they are switching. But I think when they saw Madcap and Corbin come out, they switched before the top of the hour.”

In the main event of the show, tensions finally came to a head between Roman Reigns and his Special Counsel Paul Heyman. Reigns’ questioned Heyman’s loyalty once more, before Heyman suggested he was protecting the Tribal Chief from Brock Lesnar landed him in hot water. At this, Reigns thanked Heyman for his service to his family before firing him, sealing the deal with a Superman Punch.

With Reigns looking to continue the beatdown, Lesnar arrived in the ring demolishing The Usos before hitting an F-5 on the Universal Champion.
