Dutch Mantell has called for everyone involved in a recent AEW bout to be fined and suspended following a terrifying botch which could have ended in disaster.
By it’s very nature professional wrestling is a dangerous business. Even the simplest and easiest of moves can result in injury if even a small mistake is made, while performers pushing the boundaries of what’s physically possible during a match only increases the risks.
This creates the need for an incredible level of trust between those performing, with the age old mantra of protecting your opponent being all-important.
However, despite this, accidents can always occur.
On the most recent episode of AEW Dark: Elevation Marina Shafir teamed with Nyla Rose to take on local talents JC Storm and Joelle Clift who where making their AEW debuts. While the bout was never meant to be more than an enhancement match it came to a finish in truly terrifying fashion.
With Clift high up on Rose’s shoulders, Shafir entered the ring and hit version of a DDT with Rose also falling backwards. In the process Clift was spiked onto her head and neck. After the pin, Shafir appeared to check on Clift but it unclear whether she sustained any injuries as a result of the incident.
Posting on social media, wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell called for all involved to be suspended and fined, even tagging AEW president Tony Khan directly.
“Who in the H thought this would be a good move? I think everybody involved in this should be suspended and fined from the agent to the talent. How this girl avoided injury is pure luck. @TonyKhan just my opinion.”
