Drew McIntyre’s Dreams Broken For A Third Time By CM Punk At WWE Money In The Bank

CM Punk attacks Drew McIntyre with steel chair

CM Punk spoiled Drew McIntyre’s night yet again at WWE Money in the Bank.

In recent months, the rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre has been heating up, with the Voice of the Voiceless making it his mission to prevent the Scottish Warrior from holding the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk’s first major shot against McIntyre came at WrestleMania 40 when he attacked the star minutes after he won the gold, allowing Damian Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to steal the title. Then, when McIntyre finally got a shot at Priest in Glasgow, Scotland, Punk took the place of the injured referee and took the star out with a low blow, again handing a victory to Priest.

The following Friday on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre left CM Punk a bloody mess with a vicious assault backstage, and the Straight Edge Superstar hadn’t been seen since.

At Money in the Bank, McIntyre thought he was on to a sure thing after winning the briefcase in the Men’s Ladder Match. Rather than utilise the one-year time limit for cashing in, the star used the contract to turn Priest’s defence against Seth Rollins into a Triple Threat bout. However, Punk came back to haunt him, appearing out of nowhere and throwing the star out of the ring before attacking him with repeated chair shots. He finished up by hitting McIntyre with his coveted World Heavyweight Title and, for the third time, handed Priest a win over the Scottish Psychopath.

Following yet another attack on McIntyre, CM Punk has explained whether he has finally been cleared to return to the ring.

CM Punk Made Another Enemy At WWE Money In The Bank

While Punk celebrated costing McIntyre yet again, he has likely reignited another rivalry with his actions. Ahead of Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins agreed that if he didn’t beat Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight title, he would never challenge the Judgment Day star for the gold again.

With that in mind, after the match, an enraged Rollins made a beeline for Punk, only to be held back by Corey Graves. When Punk is cleared to return to the ring, it looks like he will now have two stars aiming to get their hands on him.

Prior to McIntyre’s cash-in, Rollins hit Priest with a suplex from the top turnbuckle immediately followed by a Falcon Arrow. Rollins covered the champion, and although the referee only counted two, Priest’s shoulders clearly remained on the mat for a full three-count. At the post-show press conference, Triple H addressed the World Heavyweight Title match botch, saying that “accidents happen.”

In July, CM Punk was cleared to compete and will return to action at SummerSlam.
