At WrestleMania 39, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and Gunther delivered the hardest-hitting match of the entire two-day event.
Gunther has been at his dominant best since capturing the Intercontinental Title, and he was desperate that his run wouldn’t come to an end inside SoFi Stadium. For 16-bone-rattling minutes the three European stars went to war, and come the final bell, all were wearing various scars of battle.
The bout was subsequently awarded five stars by Dave Meltzer.
A new report has now added further gloss to McIntyre’s performance in particular, noting that he wasn’t 100% going in. The Scottish Warrior missed the April 7th episode of SmackDown due to what has been described as a “health issue.” Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer noted that whatever the unnamed issue is, McIntyre was already struggling before WrestleMania.
Although it’s unclear whether the issues are related, McIntyre almost missed the March 10th edition of SmackDown due to being “extremely ill.” He was only cleared to compete on the day of the show and has earned a reputation backstage as someone who is willing to work even when injured or banged up.
Is Drew McIntyre Leaving WWE?
There have also been a number of reports in recent weeks that Drew McIntyre could be considering his WWE future. On the eve of WrestleMania 39, it was reported that McIntyre’s deal is due to expire sometime in 2023, adding that he “isn’t close” to agreeing a new deal.
A further report noted that the former World Champion is unhappy with “creative and money.”
