Drew McIntyre once again saw the funny side in CM Punk’s road to recovery.
Mocking Punk for tearing his triceps just moments after the news was made official, The Scottish Warrior has made it his mission to inflict emotional and physical pain onto Punk at any given opportunity. With Marvel’s hit movie Deadpool & Wolverine currently the biggest movie worldwide, the 3-time World Champion took some inspiration from the superhero world to once again mock his mortal enemy.
Appearing on NotSam Wrestling with Sam Roberts ahead of his match against Punk at SummerSlam, McIntyre stated that Punk was the opposite of Wolverine due to his lack of healing abilities:
“I can just be thankful that, talk about something topical since ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is pretty big right now. A torn tricep takes about three, four months to recover from. Thankfully, Punk is, when it comes to recovering, the opposite of Wolverine [laughs]. It allowed me to really take this story all the way.”
Many have noted that the Punk vs. McIntyre feud has been one of the best in WWE right now and was one of the most anticipated matches heading into SummerSlam, a lot of credit has been given to the 3-time World Champion for his work on social media to build anticipation. Addressing his own creative process in the interview, McIntyre stated that his role was to keep elevating the rivalry so made sure to not delay any insults:
“Knowing and trusting our creative process now, myself as a performer, as much crap as I give Punk, rightfully so, he does know this industry, his brain is his gift, as psychotic as it is, and yeah, that’s something in the past I’ve been really worried about, keeping that momentum, but just knowing the process and trusting the process now with the team that we have, I know that we can keep elevating and elevating. Sometimes, I get told, ‘Maybe save this for another week.’ I’m thinking, ‘No, I’ll do it this week, and then I’ll top it next week.’ That’s my job, to keep elevating and elevating.”
McIntyre was victorious in his match against Punk at SummerSlam.
Drew McIntyre Goes All In On CM Punk Rivalry
While McIntyre chose many subjects to get under Punk’s skin, few expected The Scottish Psychopath to go to the lengths he did in the lead-up to the match. Potentially going too far with one post, Drew McIntyre deleted a CM Punk reference that many found too controversial.
H/t to Fightful.
