Drew McIntyre Speaks Out On WrestleMania Booking; Questions Why WWE Storyline Never Went Anywhere

Drew McIntyre has addressed a common fan question regarding his WrestleMania booking while also commenting on a storyline that was never really followed up on.

As confirmed on April 10th, McIntyre is set to take on Damian Priest at WrestleMania 41. Although there is a built-in story given that Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on McIntyre the previous year, some have felt that McIntyre should have been in a more high-profile match at Mania given the work he was doing in 2024.

During an appearance on the Getting Over podcast, McIntyre showed his appreciation to the fans who wanted him in a more prominent match but also acknowledged that there are limited spots on the card:

“I appreciate all the fans out there who felt like, ‘Hey, Drew should be in to a title match or this match’ and did some fantasy booking on my behalf and based on my work over the last couple of years, I’ve been able to show what I’m truly capable of when I’m unleashed.

I mean, that’s thanks to who’s obviously leading the creative right now and just letting a lot of people loose who he can trust to be themselves and take it as far as they can go creatively on television and off television. I’m on 24/7. So yeah, I really did appreciate that. At the same time, I guess there’s only so many spots at the top of the card.”

Continuing, McIntyre also added that he did question why he talked about Roman Reigns for months but there was no follow-up:

“I did question why I talked about Roman (Reigns) for three months and it didn’t really go anywhere but, I don’t make the decisions of what the final matches are and I was fully aware there is a year-long storyline with Damian Priest and I and that has not been told yet. Beginning at WrestleMania last year and we finally have the chance to start telling on TV — or I told for the past month and Priest finally had his little say back this week where people finally realized, oh, okay, wow. This has been going on this entire time.”

Drew McIntyre Confirms Royal Rumble Story

Earlier in the year, news broke that the former WWE Champion stormed out of the Royal Rumble before the show went off the air due to frustrations over his elimination. During the same interview, Drew McIntyre confirmed that he did leave the WWE Royal Rumble early as he was “fuming.”

In other news, a former WWE Champion admitted that Steve Austin stiffed them in their match and detailed the graphic aftermath.
