Drew McIntyre has finally addressed what many have asked about his recent championship victory.
In the opening match of night 2 of WrestleMania 40, Drew McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. Finally winning a top championship with live fans in attendance, McIntyre celebrated with his family and fans before directing his attention to the commentary desk where CM Punk was sat.
Not happy with just the victory, The Scottish Warrior got in the face of Punk and gloated about his victory. As McIntyre’s back was turned, Punk attacked the new champion and struck him with his arm brace. As McIntyre was down, Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and became the new World Heavyweight Champion, ending McIntyre’s reign in a matter of minutes.
According to the former champion, McIntyre has been inundated with fans asking him the same question; why didn’t he just walk to the back instead of provoking Punk? Taking to social media, McIntyre has addressed the masses:
“Let me break it down for you. This is everything I worked for, for over 20 years. This was my moment that I’ve earned. I’m sorry I wanted to soak in every single second of it at WrestleMania and make the world title moment last an eternity. I went to celebrate with my wife who has been through hell, my family who have sacrificed so much, or my fans who have been through much, 70,000 of them chanting ‘You deserve it.’ Sorry about that.
I saw Punk. I might have gotten carried away a bit and got a bit carried away on the table, but I told him I was gonna rub the title in his stupid face. Like I’ve said already, but it bears repeating for those who don’t listen, I’m a man of my word. I was within striking distance on purpose and he didn’t raise one finger until I was distracted and assaulted me like the coward he is.”
“For those of you who ask why I just didn’t leave, if you ever amount to anything, just remember by your own logic that you are not allowed to enjoy the moment. Don’t get carried away now, don’t let that adrenaline consume you, don’t do what you literally promised you were going to do prior because others might have an issue with that stupid question, ‘Why didn’t you walk away?’
Additionally, McIntyre confirmed reports that he is injured but will keep competing as he is stronger than Punk:
“The internet is telling the truth. I’ve said it in interviews already. I am hurt, but I keep pushing through because I’m not a pathetic coward little bitch like CM Punk.”
