Drew McIntyre Reflects On His WWE Release 10 Years Later

Drew McIntyre has looked back on the last decade and how it was the best thing that could have happened to him.

On June 12th 2014, McIntyre was among a list of 11 Superstars released by the company. Not the featured image and not in the headline, McIntyre was among the other stars let go and had to figure out the next steps. Making a shock return to Scottish independent promotion ICW, McIntyre made an impact imperatively before going on to wrestle in independent promotions in the UK and around the world along with a stint in TNA before making his WWE return in 2017 as part of NXT before his eventual main roster return and championship success.

10 years later to the day, McIntyre posted a video to social media ahead of his main event match at Clash at the Castle in Glasgow. Noting that he was just one of the others in the article, The Scottish Warrior admits that it was integral to his return:

Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Teddy Long, Curt Hawkins and other WWE Superstars released. That was 10 years ago today. I was one of the ‘others.’ Not in the picture. 10 years ago was the best thing that ever happened because I ended up right back here in ICW, found myself as a performer, found myself as a man, grew business outside of WWE and 10 years later main event of Clash at the Castle. Not bad for other.

Ahead of his huge title match at Clash at the Castle, Drew McIntyre made a surprise return to ICW in Glasgow.

Drew McIntyre Addresses Previous Confrontation With CM Punk

At Clash at the Castle, McIntyre will once again get the opportunity to become a World Champion as he challenges Damian Priest for the title. Although the match is seemingly a fair fight as The Judgment Day is barred from ringside, CM Punk is not and is suspected to play a part in the main event one way or another, much to the anger of McIntyre.

Looking back at his history with CM Punk, Drew McIntyre explained why he chose to keep silent during one particular segment on WWE Raw.
