WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has recounted an amusing tale about the time he wrestled the legendary Ricky Steamboat on a WWE live event.
In 2009, Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat returned to World Wrestling Entertainment for a retirement tour of sorts when he was attacked by Chris Jericho setting up a 3-On-1 Handicap Match with Roddy Piper Jimmy Snuka against ‘Y2J’ at WrestleMania XXV and a singles outing with the former WWE Champion at Backlash which received rave reviews.
Though Steamboat didn’t stay for long, it was enough time to gift him a live event outing against then ‘Chosen One’ Drew McIntyre in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which few knew existed.
Replying to a fan on Twitter who posted his memories of the clash, Drew McIntyre recalled the bout and an amusing tale about stepping into the ring with Steamboat’s son in Florida Championship Wrestling in 2010:
“Was unreal to wrestle Ricky Steamboat during his brief comeback in 2009…I also got to work with his son Richie, in FCW, in 2010. Would tell him, I remember back in the day when I used to wrestle your dad.”
