Drew McIntyre has recalled pitching a memorable moment during a tag team match where he squared off against WWE’s phenom, The Undertaker.
At Extreme Rules in July 2019 Drew McIntyre and his partner, Shane McMahon opened the show in a No Holds Barred tag team match. Their opponents at the event were the dream team of The Undertaker and current WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
In his new book A Chosen Destiny, the Scotsman discussed one idea he pitched for the match. McIntyre also noted that this type of moment is one he clued in production about to ensure the best coverage.
“I remember the No Holds Barred Match in July 2019, which pitted Roman Reigns and Undertaker against me and Shane McMahon at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view from Philadelphia. I had pitched this scenario to ‘Taker where he does his trademark hand-across-the-throat gesture and prepares for the Tombstone move and I just rise up behind him, unseen by him, but Roman sees me and stops my kick. That’s the sort of moment I would alert the camera guys to, so they could enhance the drama with their camera craft.”
McIntyre got his magic moment as Undertaker took out McMahon and the interfering Elias. As ‘Taker struck his signature pose, Drew McIntyre appeared from nowhere behind the Deadman signalling for a Claymore Kick. Reigns cut off McIntyre with a spear. The Undertaker then hit McMahon with a Tombstone Piledriver for the win.
Drew McIntyre also discusses words of wisdom that Paul Heyman shared with him ahead of the Crown Jewel event in 2019. Those words helped McIntyre go on to win the Royal Rumble and then ultimately become WWE Champion at WrestleMania 36.
