Drew McIntyre Makes Surprise WWE Return To Settle An Old Score

Drew McIntyre enters with his sword

Drew McIntyre is back, and that’s bad news for Gunther.

The Scottish star had been absent from WWE television since WrestleMania 39 when he and Sheamus proved no match for Gunther as he retained the Intercontinental Title in one of the most hard-hitting WrestleMania matches the spectacular had ever seen.

With the star out of action, speculation took his place. McIntyre will reportedly become a free agent in 2024 and there has been no news of a new deal between himself and the company. When news about his contract first came to light during WrestleMania weekend, the two sides were said to be some way apart when it came to agreeing new terms.

Despite the rumours the former World Champion is back.

At Money In The Bank, Gunther saw off Matt Riddle as many anticipated, his injured ankle, and the dominant champion proving too much for the former MMA star. But as Gunther celebrated, a ghost from his past returned.

Drew McIntyre Has A Claymore Just For Gunther

With Gunther standing tall, Drew McIntyre’s music hit to a huge ovation, the kind of response rarely given to a Scotsman in the English capital.

McIntyre didn’t rush, but strode purposely to the ring and was quickly nose-to-nose with the champion. As the pair exchanged pleasantries (probably) the tension was palpable, only broken by a shove from champion to challenger.

Not impressed with the slight, McIntyre planted a Glasgow Kiss onto Gunther’s forehead and followed it up with a Claymore.

With the stunned champion gathering himself, McIntyre grabbed the Intercontinental Champion and hoisted it to the skies, perhaps signaling its next destination.
