On December 5th Drew McIntyre announced that he would be unable to appear on the upcoming edition of Friday Night SmackDown. In a post on social media the Scottish Warrior said that he was “medically disqualified” from competing.
McIntyre had been due to team with Sheamus to take on The Usos with Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles on the line. Despite McIntyre revealing that he would be missing the show, his statement was unspecific as to why, leading to questions over whether his absence would be part of a storyline.
Drew McIntyre Out Injured
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has stated that McIntyre has suffered a legitimate injury, however, he isn’t expected to be out of action for long.
“He is injured. I was told an injury, but it’s not from a first-hand source. But he’s supposed to be back for the Christmas show.
So it’s only a couple of weeks, I know that.”
Following the news that Drew McIntyre would be unable to compete it was announced that he would be replaced by Sheamus’ partner in the Brawling Brutes, Butch. The British star recently challenged The Usos alongside Ridge Holland for the Tag Team Titles at Crown Jewel.
The Usos recently became the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions of all time after defeating the New Day on the November 11th edition of SmackDown.
Following their win, The Usos teamed with Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn to defeat Kevin Owens, Sheamus, Butch, Ridge Holland and Drew McIntyre.
The WarGames match was highly praised by fans for its storytelling, particularly when it came to Sami Zayn proving his loyalty to The Bloodline. Not only did Zayn stop the referee from counting when Kevin Owens had Roman Reigns pinned, he also hit his long-time friend with a dastardly low blow that allowed Jey Uso to score the pinfall victory for their team following a splash.
