Drew McIntyre Elaborates On Staying Silent During Promo Battle With CM Punk On WWE Raw Following Vince McMahon Reference

Drew McIntyre has looked back on a particular segment during WWE Raw where he forced himself to keep quiet after being provoked by CM Punk.

On the March 25th episode of Raw, McIntyre and Punk exchanged insults in the lead-up to WrestleMania. McIntyre took shots at Punk including making reference to the fact that although Punk lives a straight-edge lifestyle he is always in rehab for his injuries. As McIntyre mentioned that he was The Chosen One, Punk asked the 3-time World Champion who gave him that name. With the comment being a reference to Vince McMahon, whose name is banned from WWE TV due to the sexual misconduct allegations that forced McMahon to resign, McIntyre did not fire back as Punk continued his promo.

Recalling the events that transpired in an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, McIntyre detailed his mindset at that moment and how it was best for him not to respond to Punk’s comment:

‘What was going through my mind was I could respond right now, and would it be a good look for our company? And I have to make a decision because we’re going O.K. Corral-style, unloading rounds on each other. I did what I thought was right for not just the company, but for our roster, and held my tongue on that night. I had a couple of things in mind that would have melted the internet, but potentially hurt us in different ways.’

McIntyre also added that if he ever did start making comments that could be detrimental to his own career or the company as a whole then it should be seen as a warning:

‘If you see Drew McIntyre going off those lines, swearing and saying things like “wow, this is gonna potentially hurt himself or the company or the roster”, then it’s because I have lost it.’

Concluding, McIntyre added that his “off the lines” comments are extremely unlikely to happen as he has been dealing with Punk for a number of years:

‘You’ve gotta be professional and good at your job,’ he said. ‘If anything, it makes it more compelling because you know… we just don’t like each other.’

Stipulation Added To Drew McIntyre Match

On June 15th, McIntyre will once again get the opportunity to become a World Champion as he challenges Damian Priest for the title in Glasgow, Scotland. As a result of his most recent victory, Drew McIntyre now has an advantage with the stipulation attached.

Drew McIntyre has also looked back on his WWE release 10 years later to the day.

In the same interview, Drew McIntyre recalled needing a police escort to escape a wrestling show.
