Drew McIntyre On Rivalry With Roman Reigns Being Compared To Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair

McIntyre vs Reigns at WWE WrestleMania

Former WWE Champion, Drew McIntyre shared his thoughts on WWE Executive Vice President Triple H’s assertion that McIntyre versus Roman Reigns is this generation’s Hulk Hogan versus Ric Flair.

In an interview with In The Kliq McIntyre commented:

“[Hearing that] was a surprise, but I was very appreciative on such a high compliment,” McIntyre said. “Hunter – he’s the one who brought me back to WWE. He’s watched my entire career evolve and then devolve, and then re-evolve in front of his eyes. So it’s cool now, at this stage, that they can see me at such a level.”

McIntyre and Reigns have clashed several times before, most notably at WrestleMania 35, wherein Reigns defeated the Scotsman.

However, after a phenomenal 2020 wherein Drew McIntyre won his first WWE Championship and became the lead star on Raw; a potential clash between the ‘Scottish Psychopath’ and ‘The Tribal Chief’ could occur again at a future WrestleMania, this time as the headliner.

McIntyre believes their next collision will occur on a big stage:

“I think the thing is to keep us on the path we’re currently on, Roman, keep doing what he’s doing with his new character, and me finally being myself. Actually, I think it’s more Roman being himself. Both of us are being ourselves now and keep developing these characters to get to the point where everybody knows them inside and out, and we take them as far as we can possibly take them. And eventually, when we have that big match down the line, it can be at that high, high level.”

Hogan and Flair were once pencilled in to main event WrestleMania VIII before plans changed. However, the two top stars of the 1980s and early 90’s famously clashed in memorable bouts in WCW, most notably at 1994’s Bash at the Beach and Halloween Havoc events.

It remains to be seen whether McIntyre and Reigns will have Hogan and Flair’s longevity in the business. However, both superstars are definitely at the top of their games right now.
