Out of time, say goodbye, what was Seth Rollins’ is now Drew McIntyre’s.
Rollins saw his double stint at WrestleMania 40 come to an end in the worst possible way as his World Heavyweight Championship reign came to an end after being defeated by McIntyre. The loss was The Visionary’s second of the weekend after losing the main event tag team match to The Rock and Roman Reigns on night one.
The match couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start for ‘The Messiah’ as Drew McIntyre immediately connected with a brutal Claymore Kick as the bell rang but Rollins got his shoulder up just in time.
The formidable rivals then took to the outside with McIntyre taking his time to take Rollins apart piece by piece, even leaving himself enough time to toy with CM Punk and even, in a WrestleMania first, tweet live from the show.
‘The Scottish Warrior’s’ WrestleMania almost came crashing down as he looked to mock CM Punk by hitting a GTS, however, Rollins was able to counter into a roll up that almost stealing the victory from McIntyre.
Both men left everything on the table as Rollins connected with a stomp on the announce desk before McIntyre connected with a forth Claymore Kick but it was not enough…however, as CM Punk screamed for McIntyre to try again for the GTS, ‘The Scottish Warrior’ refused to be distracted laying out Rollins with one final Claymore Kick to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
McIntyre celebrated as Rollins was left laying and CM Punk watched on from the commentary desk.
However…Drew McIntyre’s night took an unexpected turn.
After celebrating his victory in the face of an injured CM Punk…McIntyre was blindsided by ‘The Second City Saint’ who laid out ‘The Scottish Warrior’ opening up the opportunity for Damian Priest to cash in his WWE Money in the Bank briefcase and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion ending McIntyre’s reign at a record setting five minutes.
