A new report has suggested that now-former WWE Superstar Drake Maverick was never going to be taken seriously by Vince McMahon.

On November 18th, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful broke the news that 8 WWE Superstars were set to be let go by the company. It emerged that Hit Row, John Morrison, Tegan Nox, Jaxson Ryker, Shane Thorne, and Drake Maverick were the ones leaving the company.

Some of those stars have since reacted on social media while the wider wrestling world has also been reacting to the shocking events.

Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now reported that Drake Maverick’s release didn’t come as a surprise due to his size:

“[Maverick’s] departure was not a surprise since he was considered to be cut just a few weeks ago, but survived that round. Someone of his size was not going to be taken seriously by Vince McMahon, and while a great personality when put on the screen, his age and size worked against him.”

38-year-old Drake Maverick was originally released from WWE in 2020 before being swiftly brought back into the fold.

The multiple-time 24/7 Champion released a video online following his release, parodying the emotional one he made after his initial WWE release. Several wrestling personalities have responded to Maverick’s video including WWE icon and 16-time champion of the world, John Cena.
