Dragon Lee Announced WWE Signing After Winning The AAA Tag Team Championships
The 27-year-old Mexican star announced he had signed with WWE at Gira Aniversario XXX – Noche De Campeones in December of last year. Lee made the announcement just seconds after winning the AAA Tag Team Championships from FTR alongside his brother Dralistico. Right after his announcement and the pair vacated their titles.
Following the news, it was reported that the international star turned down an offer from AEW. Lee appeared on AEW television in August 2022, teaming with RUSH and Andrade El Idolo. This led some to believe that if Lee headed to the United States it would be to become All Elite. It was also mentioned that Lee will be the highest-paid performer in NXT.
Lee was expected to make his debut earlier this year. However, due to visa issues, his arrival was delayed. It was believed that Lee would be working at the company from January, but it wasn’t until recently that he made his debut.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has now revealed that this isn’t through a lack of trying on WWE’s part. Meltzer reported that the company wanted Lee to make his debut at Vengeance Day on February 4th, but was prevented from appearing due to visa issues.
“I’m sure they wanted to introduce Dragon Lee [at Vengeance Day} but he’s having visa issues so he’s not there yet.”
Dragon Lee made his debut with CMLL in January 2014 before making his Ring of Honor debut two years later. The second-generation star also found success in New Japan Pro Wrestling where he won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. More recently, Lee appeared on AEW Dynamite, teaming with his other brother RUSH and Andrade El Idolo in defeat to The Elite in the AEW World Trios Title Tournament.
