Dragon Lee is no longer the WWE NXT North American Champion.
At NXT Deadline on December 9th, Dragon Lee served as a last-minute replacement for an injured Wes Lee and defeated Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship despite officially being a part of the SmackDown roster.
After a brief hiatus due to visa issues, the SmackDown star returned to action on January 9th, defending his title against Lexis King, formerly known as Brian Pillman Jr. After a back and forth match, Lee was able to pin King to retain his championship, but he didn’t have long to celebrate his victory.
Oba Femi Defeated Dragon Lee To Become The New WWE NXT North American Champion
Due to winning the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament, young upstart Oba Femi was guaranteed a title opportunity of his choosing, and he shocked the NXT audience when he chose to cash in that opportunity immediately after Lee’s victory over King. Lee stepped up to the challenge, but having just competed, the larger Femi held the advantage. Despite Lee’s attempts at offense, he was overpowered and pinned following a massive powerbomb from Femi.
At just 22 years old, Femi now holds the record as the youngest man ever to be crowned North American Champion in the history of NXT.
Elsewhere on the January 9th episode of NXT, the unlikely pair of Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker defeated former NXT Tag Team Champions Gallus to advance in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Axiom and Nathan Frazier also advanced, defeating the team of Hank Walker and Tank Ledger.
