27-year-old Mexican star Dragon Lee has signed with WWE and will be joining up with NXT in early 2023.
Lee made the announcement just seconds after winning the AAA Tag Team Championships from FTR alongside his brother Dralistico. Right after securing the win, Lee made his announcement and the pair vacated their titles. FTR had held the gold since October 2021 when they defeated the Lucha Brothers.
Dragon Lee Heading To NXT
WWE’s Head of Talent Strategy and Operations James Kimball commented that Dragon Lee is a “tremendous talent”
“Dragon Lee is a tremendous talent that will immediately add value to the NXT roster, This signing is reflective of WWE’s renewed emphasis on globalizing our talent pipeline with Latin America positioned as a focal market.”
Speaking to ESPN, Lee said that he believed he could become the next Rey Mysterio.
“I think I can become the new Rey Mysterio in WWE, I just need the opportunity. “[Balor] told me, ‘Would you like to be in WWE?'” Lee said with a laugh. “I said, ‘Yeah, sure. Why not?’ … It was something special for me. It’s my challenge to learn more about promos,” Lee said. “You will never finish learning in pro wrestling. But every time you wrestle, you learn. But about promos, it’s something new for me. I would like to learn something new, how to become not just a wrestler — an artist”
