Doudrop has admitted that the recent WWE release of her former mentor Eva Marie has left her “heartbroken,” adding that she hopes she’ll return one day.
On November 4th, Eva Marie was released by WWE alongside 17 other Superstars. The list of names let go included former NXT Champion’s Karrion Kross and Keith Lee as well as Nia Jax and Scarlett.
This marks the second time that Marie has left the company, after she parted ways with WWE in 2017.
Eva Marie re-joined WWE in May 2021, promising bring the Eva-lution in a series of vignettes. When Marie made her on-screen return a month later she did so alongside a new, unnamed protégé. While fans may have previously known the mystery figure in NXT UK as Piper Niven, she was given the name Doudrop by her mentor.
In conversation with the Metro, Doudrop said that she was “heartbroken” over Marie’s release, before praising her work as a heel.
“Honestly, I’m absolutely heartbroken because that woman is a big sister to me. Behind the scenes, she is the nicest person you will ever meet… Every single person, she’s got a funny story with them. I just love her so much.”
“I hope it’s not the last we’ve seen of her in WWE, I think she’s amazing. When you see her in real life, you’re like… you’re amazing at being a heel. But time will tell – who knows what will happen in this crazy world?”
Expanding further, the Scottish Superstar explained that Marie had helped guide her as she arrived on the main roster.
“I feel like everything that has been thrown at me, I’ve knocked out of the park – especially being with Eva,’ she reflected. ‘She obviously has been here before so for me it was a bit calming to have someone that had the experience, and who could guide me.”
After debuting in June, cracks quickly began to appear in the on-screen relationship between the pair with Doudrop walking out on Eva Marie at SummerSlam.
Marie was later beaten by her former protégé on Raw after which the two women went their separate ways.
