A new report has dismissed speculation about a WWE deal with Saudi Arabia and cast doubt over whether Vince McMahon actually wants to sell the company.
On January 6th Vince McMahon returned to WWE’s Board of Directors along with two associates. In the process he ousted three Board members while two more resigned with immediate effect. At the time McMahon insisted that his return was in order to facilitate the sale of the company. It also came to light that this was McMahon’s second attempt at a comeback having previously been rejected by the Board.
Four days later Stephanie McMahon, who had been working as co-CEO announced her departure from WWE. This was followed by Vince McMahon’s election as Executive Director and reports that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund had agreed a deal for the sports entertainment giant.
Some Doubt Vince McMahon Wants To Sell WWE
However, a further report has now suggested that there is nothing in place, at least not yet.
Financial journalist and CNBC market news analyst David Faber has now reported that there even doubts that McMahon wants to sell the company. Faber also dismissed reports concerning the Saudi deal.
“What I’m hearing is that you may see a process, you might see some books go out. Couple of investment banks being hired to send books out saying ‘hey, are you interested?’ But, I also hear from prospective buyers that it’s very much unclear whether Vince McMahon really would wanna sell this thing. If he were to, he’d still want run it, potentially. Do you really want Vince McMahon, you know, working for you, so to speak?
So some doubt out there as to, not whether or not you might see some sort of a process, but whether it would end up with this asset actually being sold.
The Saudi thing doesn’t appear to have a lot behind it right now.”
