A deep conversation with Chris Jericho led to this top AEW star changing his wrestling style.
A part of All Elite Wrestling since his 2019, Chris Jericho has been in the industry since the early 1990s. Currently in his 50s, Jericho has lived and experienced multiple eras of the industry. Arguably, still fit and moving at an unbelievable speed in his age, Chris Jericho once changed Will Ospreay’s entire perspective.
At AEW All In 2023, Will Ospreay and Chris Jericho clashed, with Ospreay scoring the victory over the veteran. However, before that, the former WWE star had asked Ospreay to be more cautious of his style. Ospreay is widely known for his risky moves and high-flying abilities.
Recently speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Ospreay opened up on the advice he had received from Jericho in 2018.
“Yeah, he called me up. I had done something stupid. I fucked my neck up back in 2018, I’ve never been the same since then. It was against Marty [Scurll]. We did the Spanish Fly and my fucking head hit the apron, but my neck contorted unerneath me and I felt everything. The shock go down my arm. It was horrendous. I’ve never been the same since. A month after, me and KUSHIDA were wrestling and we had done a DDT off the apron to the floor. I was fine, I was absolutely fine.
I controlled my body on the landing, but it looked horrendous. Jericho got on the phone with me and said, ‘Hey, look, please don’t die. You have to look after yourself. Pick your bumps. You don’t need to be doing that type of stuff all the time.’ That hit. I was like, ‘I appreciate it.’ Especially at that time, Jericho only would pop over to New Japan every now and again. The fact that he took his time out to be like, ‘Rocky gave me your number, I want to have a chat.
Let’s talk.’ He genuinely gives a fuck. Every time I’ve been around Chris, he’s always given me great advice. Even being here, there are promo things that I will do and he’s like, ‘Who told you to do that?’ ‘This person told me.’ ‘Don’t do that because of this reason.’ When he explains it to me, I’m like, ‘Ah, of course.’ He’s been a reall good hand to have backstage. Anytime I go, ‘What do you think of this?’ He’s great in his honesty.”

While Jericho is currently the reigning ROH World Champion, Ospreay is scheduled to face Kyle Fletcher in a steel cage match at the Revolution PPV on 9th March.
AEW Star Chris Jericho Reveals Why He Does Not Want A Retirement Match
With both Goldberg and John Cena set to have their final match later in 2025, veteran Chris Jericho has explained why he is against a retirement match. Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, he said,
“It’s weird for me, I don’t know if I want that much pomp and circumstance. I’m not sure if that’s John’s idea or if it’s the company’s idea. A big retirement match, that’s a lot of pressure. Like Sting with his last one, it was so good, but imagine if it wasn’t. Imagine like [Ric] Flair and Shawn [Michaels], that was a great match but then Flair was like, ‘God, I want to come back.’
It’s like a rock and roll band, why put that sort of stamp on it? This is the retirement tour and then you decide to come back. To me, I just kind of go with the flow and see where I am. Once again, I do not have the ego that would demand an official retirement tour or retirement match. If it’s something that I think would be interesting and I thought would be fun and cool, then maybe I’d do it.”
