Brock Lesnar is the subject of ongoing debates within the world of pro wrestling after his shocking WWE return at SummerSlam last night. There was a belief among some that the UFC Legend was done with the company after being named in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis, but now he’s back. There are now more questions than answers, along with rumor killers on Lesnar’s WWE status, and a look at misinformation.
The Beast last wrestled at SummerSlam 2023 in the loss to Cody Rhodes. Lesnar’s return at the 2024 Royal Rumble was nixed after he was named in the lawsuit filed by Grant, a former WWE HQ employee. The company distanced itself from Lesnar, and there were rumors on the 48-year-old being added to a “banned list” internally.
Lesnar shocked the WWE Universe at the end of the 38th annual SummerSlam as he ruined John Cena’s special post-match moment, right after Big Match John was dethroned of the Undisputed WWE Championship by Rhodes. Source have since revealed that WWE’s legal department cleared Lesnar to return around one month ago. Despite that report, fans and others around the industry have made all sorts of baseless claims against the company and Lesnar.
WWE and Brock Lesnar were called out in a scathing statement from Janel Grant’s spokesperson earlier this morning. One narrative making the rounds today claims Lesnar returned to WWE because the Grant lawsuit has been dismissed or settled, while others see this as a sign that Lesnar was removed from the lawsuit. Multiple sources have confirmed that the suit is still active in the United States District Court of Connecticut. PWInsider adds that there has been no settlement or any other resolution filed by the court.
Grant’s lawsuit is still moving forward. If anything else has happened, it is not listed in court records as of today as the latest update on file is from July 1, where WWE and McMahon are trying to get the case moved to private arbitration because Grant’s agreement with the former WWE Chairman allows for it.
Brock Lesnar was never a defendant in Grant’s lawsuit, and he was never sued, just named. Therefore, it’s not possible that Lesnar has been “removed” from the suit or anything like that. With that said, Grant has not retracted the allegations involving Lesnar, and they are still in the lawsuit. Sources noted how it appears Lesnar’s WWE return is independent of Grant’s lawsuit, not a sign of anything else.
Clearing Up Brock Lesnar WWE Return Speculation
The wrestling world is engaged in various debaters surrounding the WWE return of Brock Lesnar, which officials put great effort into keeping a surprise. There are several instances of misinformation and incorrect claims making the rounds, and some in the media have tried to clear up some of the confusion.
Sources reported overnight how WWE attorneys cleared The Beast to return several weeks ago. Pages that name Brock Lesnar in Janel Grant’s original lawsuit against WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis were shared to X today by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics.
“Here’s what Janel Grant’s lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon alleges about Brock Lesnar. (These pages contain detailed descriptions of alleged sexual abuse by McMahon and what Grant says was his attempt to traffic her to Lesnar during a contract negotiation.) These are the pages that most heavily focus on Lesnar,” Brandon Thurston wrote with the screenshots below.

As certain false narratives on WWE and Brock Lesnar continue to grow in visibility today, Thurston then reiterated why the company’s legal department was able to clear the 10-time champion. He included a screenshot of Title 18, Section 1591 of The Code of Laws of the United States of America, which details the federal statute on sex trafficking of children or by force, fraud, or coercion.
“Lesnar isn’t a defendant in the lawsuit. Criminal charges haven’t been filed. McMahon denies wrongdoing. Because it’s being discussed: Whether Grant’s allegations specifically against Lesnar amount to illegal conduct could depend on what he knew about her alleged coercion,” Brandon Thurston wrote with the screenshot below.
