Jake Roberts loves a bizarre story. Ever heard the one about Donald Trump’s ex-wife trying to hire security guards to “beat the sh*t” out of him?
At WrestleMania IV Jake Roberts and Rick Rude met in a first round match in the tournament to crown a new WWF Champion. The tournament was created after the championship was won by Andre The Giant who promptly sold it to Ted DiBiase.
Roberts and Rude fought to a 15-minute time-limit draw during their match meaning that neither man qualified for the next round. Instead a bye was given to the One Man Gang.
After the match, Roberts swung his pet snake towards Ivana Trump, then-wife of Donald Trump who had been watching at ringside. This caused Trump to fall back in her chair, something she didn’t take lightly.
Speaking on a recent episode of his DDP Snake Pit podcast, Jake Roberts recalled the incident.
“I remember Ivana (Trump) sitting at ringside not even looking at the ring,” Roberts said. “She had her little champagne glass with the bottle, you know, the big bottle in the cooler, and she turned her chair sideways. Donald’s going crazy for the match and she’s just sipping. She won’t even look. So that’s the reason that happened at the end whenever I came out on her side and I grabbed a snake and I swung it at her, and she pushed her chair too far back and she fell backwards.”
The Hall of Famer revealed that he later found out that Ivana tried to hire two security guards to attack him.
“I found out at WrestleMania VII that she actually tried to hire two of her guards to come into my hotel room and beat the fu**ing sh*t out of me, and Donald affirmed it. Donald loves me. I don’t know if it’s just because of that, but he loves me, and I’m so glad.”
Donald Trump and Ivana were present at the event as it was billed as taking place at Trump Plaza, despite actually being hosted at Boardwalk Hall. Trump was announced as sponsoring the spectacular.
