Don Callis: “Comparing Kenny Omega To Anyone Else In The Wrestling Business Is Frankly Ridiculous”

Kenny Omega & Don Callis appearing on IMPACT Wrestling

Seemingly out of nowhere on one December night in 2020 Don Callis became one of the most talked about men in professional wrestling. In helping Kenny Omega win the AEW World Championship at AEW Winter Is Coming, Callis set into motion a series of events which has changed the wrestling landscape entirely.

Don Callis has been crucial in developing the working relationship that now exists between IMPACT and AEW, and on-screen he has formed an alliance with someone who who many regard as the greatest wrestler in the world today, Kenny Omega.

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Callis has discussed his relationship with the current AEW World Champion, describing how the pair are unique in how they see the wrestling business.

“I think Kenny and I have been unique in the business in the sense that we don’t tend to look at the business through the lens of corporate structure or the traditional old carny rules of pro wrestling,” Callis said. “To me, Impact, AEW, they’re just people. Kenny Omega is a God among insects. Comparing Kenny Omega to anyone else in the wrestling business is frankly ridiculous. So, we’re just different and whether we were playing this out in pro wrestling or some other industrial platform, I don’t think it wouldn’t really matter. Frankly, we’d still be successful in what we’re trying to do.”

Elsewhere in the interview Callis went on to explain how he has turned down offers to join WWE creative on three different occasions. Revealing that he never originally had an interest in becoming a wrestler or a manager, preferring instead to be the person “pulling the strings.”

Callis appeared alongside Omega at IMPACT Hard To Kill, where Omega would pin IMPACT World Champion Rich Swan to stand tall at the end of the night. Although, arguably more important than the result of the match was Kenny Omega appearing in a Bullet Club t-shirt, following the Bullet Club reunion on a recent episode of AEW Dynamite.
