Dominik & Rey Mysterio Pay Tribute To WWE Hall Of Famer

The latest episode of Monday Night Raw saw Dominik & Rey Mysterio pay special tribute to a WWE Hall of Famer.

The Mysterios and The Judgment Day have been embroiled in a feud for weeks, and on the July 4th episode of Monday Night Raw, the teams faced off once more. This particular bout featured references to the legendary Eddie Guerrero from both Dominik and Rey.

Dominik Mysterio often does Guerrero’s signature “Viva la raza” shoulder shimmy and frog splash, but tonight the tributes to the late WWE Hall of Famer went one step further. Near the end of the match, Damian Priest slid a chair into the ring to help out his partner Finn Balor, but the chair was intercepted by Dominik. While the referee’s back was turned, Rey – who was legal at the time – hit the chair on the mat, threw it to Balor, and took a bump as though he’d been hit.

The referee saw Finn Balor with the chair and called for a disqualification, granting the Mysterios the victory even though Balor hadn’t actually hit Rey with the chair.

This sneaky move was a classic in Eddie Guerrero’s repertoire, and he famously used it in his last match against Mr. Kennedy on an episode of SmackDown to qualify for the 2005 Survivor Series team. Tragically, he passed away days later before he could participate in the pay per view.

Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were close friends in real life prior to Eddie’s untimely passing in November 2005, and Dominik was famously involved in their SummerSlam match that same year. After Guerrero claimed to be Dominik’s biological father, he and Rey Mysterio fought in a ladder match to determine the custody of Dominik. Rey Mysterio was victorious in the bout, regaining custody of his son with help from his wife Angie.

Elsewhere on Monday Night Raw, Theory revealed that he’s been granted a rematch with Bobby Lashley for the United States Championship at SummerSlam, and that he intends to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns following their bout.
