Dominik Mysterio’s Unique Eddie Guerrero Offence Leads To Shocking Victory At SummerSlam

Dominik Mysterio pulled a page out of the late Eddie Guerrero’s playbook to beat a WWE legend at SummerSlam 2025.

Dirty Dom put his WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line against AJ Styles on Night 2 of The Biggest Party of the Summer in New Jersey. As part of mind games against the champion, Styles paid tribute to the late great Guerrero by riding a lowrider alongside his son, Avery Jones, in the passenger seat.

The Phenomenal One even patterned his tights to what The Latino Heat used to wear during his prime. During the match, a lot of Eddie Guerrero references were used, like Mysterio smashing the chair and passing it to Styles, pretending he got hit. The latter responded by lying down on his own, just like the WWE Hall of Famer used to do to confuse referees.

In the penultimate moments of the match, Dirty Dom untied his boot to counter The Phenomenal One’s Calf Crusher.

Dominik Mysterio does an impressive callback from Eddie Guerrero’s championship match

At WrestleMania 20, Eddie Guerrero loosened his boots to prepare for Kurt Angle’s impending Ankle Lock. The Olympic gold medalist applied his submission move but only removed the boot, which allowed The Latino Heat to roll Angle up and retain his then-WWE Championship.

That’s exactly what Dominik Mysterio did in his Intercontinental Championship match against AJ Styles. When The Phenomenal One applied his Calf Crusher submission, he got Dirty Dom’s left boot instead.

The champion cheated by hitting his boot to the challenger’s head, following up with a Frog Splash to retain. The whole premise of the match was a complete tribute to Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio’s ladder match from 20 years ago in SummerSlam 2005, for the custody of then 8-year-old Dominik.
