Dominik Mysterio Opens Up About Previous Injury That Is Still Bothering Him Today

WWE Hall Of Famer Among Dominik Mysterio's

Dominik Mysterio has opened up about a previous injury.

Earlier last week, Dominik Mysterio defeated Finn Balor, Penta, and Bron Breakker to crown himself the new Intercontinental Champion. Battling hardships and minor injuries, Mysterio was finally able to achieve this feat at the showcase of the Immortals.

However, despite no current visible or threatening injury, Mysterio opened up about a past injury that still bothers him. Speaking with Sam Roberts on the Not Sam Wrestling podcast, the current IC champion reflected on one of his injuries and how it still bothers him.

“It’s probably a lingering thing from when I punctured a lung with Edge, that one match. That’s what it could be, but it’s also probably from the spears (from Bron Breakker). I did the frog splash and it had been a long time since I had wrestled at that point, so I came up a little short and cracked a small rib and that punctured my lung. It’s what happened with JD [McDonagh]. His was ten times worse.

We were in Portland, Oregon and I had a 7 AM flight back home and I got to the hospital at maybe midnight. They did X-rays and I was like, ‘Hey, can I just get the fuck home.’ They were like, ‘You can’t fly with one of these. We can do X-rays at 5 AM again and if it’s small enough, it’s your choice.’ They did it and they were like, ‘It’s small enough. It’s your choice.’ ‘Get me the fuck home.'”

Almost three years ago, on September 12, 2022, Mysterio had faced off against Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland, where he had allegedly suffered this injury. Following this, he returned for a match against AJ Styles on the October 17th, 2022 episode of Raw.

Earlier last year, Mysterio also underwent Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.

Dominik Mysterio Explains Why He Enjoys Being A “Heel”

Recently, in an interview with Netflix, Dominik Mysterio explained why he enjoys his run as a heel.

“I enjoy being a bad guy. I feel like I have more liberty in what I can do, say, and get away with. I feel like I’m pushing the boundaries a little bit more. This might sound terrible, but kids and their dads will show up to events and I’m like, ‘Is that your dad? He’s probably a deadbeat too.’ So it’s just getting to have more fun with them other than being a good guy. I’ve witnessed that my whole life with my dad. I wanted to do something different with the Mysterio name.”
