Dominik Mysterio claims he wants his wrestling style and moves to be “special”.
Making his in-ring debut against Seth Rollins in 2020 as a lovable babyface, Dominik Mysterio has evolved himself into one of the most hated yet popular characters on the roster. A former NXT North-American Champion and the current Intercontinental Champion, Mysterio has wrestled around 319 matches, and improved by leaps and bounds since his first.
Adapting a mixed wrestling style influenced by his father Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, and other American wrestlers, the Judgment Day member brings a fusion of Lucha Libre and American style in the ring. Displaying his more grounded technique in matches with rare occurrences of high-flying moves, Dominik Mysterio recently revealed why he wrestles the way he does.
In an appearance on the Intoxicados Podcast, he explained how he wants his style to be “special” and have his moves mean something.
“The reason I’m like that is because – and this is just my personal opinion – I feel like you see that so much. Especially nowadays with the way wrestling has (evolved) and just moved on from what it used to be. You’d go from chain wrestling, to you’re now doing lucha libre style, to a mixture of lucha libre and American style. And it’s like, you have guys doing insane backflips. I can’t do half that s**t… I mean, I’m sure I can if I put the time in.
But I feel like it’s more special because you see it so often, but not from me. So when you do see it from me, you’re like, ‘Damn, did you see Dom do that moonsault?’, or like, ‘Damn, did you see Dom do that?’ – I want it to mean something, I want it to be special when I do it.
If you go out there and wrestle 100 times and you do a moonsault 90% of the time, the people are gonna expect it. If I give it to them 10% of the time, when I do hit that moonsault, everyone’s gonna be like ‘Damn, did you see that moonsault?’ – It’s gonna mean more.”
Dominik Mysterio Believes He Is Better These Several WWE Hall Of Famers
During an interview on The Babyfaces Podcast,Dominik Mysterio hailed himself a better Intercontinental Champion than Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Pat Patterson, and others.
“There’s a bunch of guys that I’m better than that have had this title. You got the Honky Tonk Man, you got Bret Hart, you got Stone Cold, you got Shawn Michaels, you got Pat Patterson. I’m better than all of these guys. I don’t know how old they were when they won it. They’re all fossils at this point. But like, for me, I think that I’m only going to give you three, because I feel like five fishing for something there. I don’t know if I like it, so I’m gonna go with me at number one, Eddie at number two, and then number three, I’m gonna go with JBL. I’m gonna give JBL his flowers.”
