A former WWE star has claimed that Dolph Ziggler almost cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase at WrestleMania.
‘The Showoff’ Dolph Ziggler captured the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2012 and would carry it all the way to the Raw after WrestleMania 29. On the night he took advantage of a weakened Alberto Del Rio to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Although Ziggler’s cash-in is considered one of the best in WWE history, some have wondered whether there had been plans for Ziggler cashing-in the night before on the “Grandest Stage of Them All.” According to Del Rio’s former ring announcer, that may’ve been the case.
Speaking on the Cafe De Rene podcast, Ricardo Rodriguez, who acted as Del Rio’s ring announcer in WWE, talked about plans for Ziggler to win the championship at WrestleMania. However, it appeared the cash-in was postponed until the night afterward.
“It was originally supposed to happen at WrestleMania(…) So we were talking about it [match] and Triple H comes in(…) It turns out that Triple H wanted, he comes in and basically says Dolph is gonna cash in after and Alberto is like no. Pretty much like no.”
“It was promised. It was promised that Alberto was going to have a WrestleMania moment. Originally, it was supposed to happen at the first WrestleMania [27]. But because of Edge’s injury, the plans were changed.”
Despite winning the championship on Raw, Ziggler’s title run only lasted for 69 days. The charismatic superstar suffered a minor concussion that kept him out of action for a brief period. He later lost the championship to Del Rio at WWE Payback 2013.
Dolph Ziggler is currently feuding with the current Money in the Bank holder, Theory. The former World Heavyweight Champion has been purposely costing Theory matches on Raw.
