WWE contracts are a topic very rarely ever out of the news but they have come under even more scrutiny in recent weeks. Last month, WWE declared its intention to prevent talent using third-party platforms such as Cameo and Twitch. One of the most vocal critics of the policy was former Presidential candidate Andrew Yang, and on the latest episode of his podcast Yang Speaks, he sat down with WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler to tackle the controversial issue.
While acknowledging that there is a grey area, Dolph Ziggler also explains that he can see both sides of the argument.
“So there’s a little bit of both sides we have to understand. You’re still working for a brand, for the most part, as long as it’s not bad-mouthing the company and a couple of other things, you get more leeway and the paperwork is there to protect them, whether you think it’s fair or not.”
Ziggler added, “I get both sides, but also when it comes to independent contractors, we should be able to do whatever we want and wear what we want as long as we’re there on Monday to do the match.”
This is a contentious issue and with the continued rise in popularity of platforms such as Twitch, one which looks set to stick around for a while yet.
