Does Triple H Have More Backstage Power?

Triple H

After his emphatic return to the WWE Performance Center, a new report has shed further light on what, exactly, Triple H’s backstage responsibilities are with WWE.

Amidst the investigations surrounding Vince McMahon, a report from Wednesday, 22 June, courtesy of POST Wrestling’s John Pollack, indicated that Triple H had declared he was “back” with WWE. What, exactly, this meant remains unknown, but the real-life Paul Levesque may be back in the fold with more power than ever before.

During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the matter of Triple H’s return when Meltzer effectively decreed that ‘The Game’ does have more power. Again, though, the exact meaning of this is still a mystery for now:

“I mean, not the hugest there, he said that he was back, he didn’t say exactly what that meant. I asked some people there and they said he just said, ‘Things are happening’, and he can’t talk about them right now. But he’s back. So, that’s basically it. Whatever it is will come out in the days to come but nobody knew exactly what he meant by that. Is he back running NXT? Perhaps. Is he back with more power? Yes. He does seem to have more power now.”

Triple H had been absent from his WWE duties since suffering a cardiac event last September. The 52-year-old has been serving as the company’s Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy and Development, and had made a huge impact with WWE’s NXT brand prior to its rebirth as NXT 2.0 on 14 September.

It’s unknown if Triple H will retain this title or receive a new one upon his return to work. His wife, Stephanie McMahon, was named WWE’s interim CEO and Chairwoman last Friday following Vince McMahon stepping back from his roles at the top of the WWE food chain while he’s investigated for misconduct.

Yesterday’s report that Triple H had returned to WWE was a positive update on Triple H’s road to recovery. He’s been declared officially retired from in-ring competition following his heart-related issues last September and has made just a couple of appearances for WWE since, returning to programming over WrestleMania weekend.
