Nigel McGuinness has commented on the possibility of having further matches following his shock return to the ring at AEW All In.
Back in 2011, McGuinness seemingly competed in his final wrestling match for promotion APWA. Bringing his career to a surprising end, the announcer stated earlier in the year in an interview with Chris Van Vliet that while sometimes wrestlers don’t get to choose their endings, it was not the one he hoped for:
“I never imagined that my last match would be in a small volunteer fire department in West Virginia.”
Shocking the fans inside Wembley Stadium and all around the world at All In, Nigel McGuinness was a surprise entrant in the Casino Gauntlet match and competed in his first match in nearly 13 years. While McGuinness proved that he could still go in the ring, are there any plans to compete in any more matches or does a match at Wembley Stadium give his career that happy ending?
Speaking with Raj Prashad of Uproxx, McGuinness reflected on his appearance in the Casio Gauntlet match:
“It’s one thing, certainly the year prior, to come back and announce the world record attendance. But to actually be in the ring. It was just a different feeling altogether. And that reaction was just something that I will take with me for the rest of my life.
It gave me an incredible sense of, I wouldn’t say closure because that makes it sound like the last thing for me. But it certainly has given me peace and a sense of surreal reality that this was able to happen. I had a lot of blessings in my life and a lot of obstacles as well. And to be as lucky as I was to have that opportunity – thanks to Tony Khan – it meant so much.”
During another recent interview, Nigel McGuinness revealed that he is open to more opportunities to get in the ring.
Nigel McGuinness Names Dream Opponents
Continuing the interview, the AEW announcer named a number of stars he would love to face, stating that there are aspirations to have at least one more match:
“Bryan’s certainly head of line because of our history, there’s so much emotion tied up in a match with him. Zack Sabre Jr. would be a dream match. Adam Copeland, he’s got another of those ‘broken bones.’ There are so many great talents, Lee Moriarty has been gracious enough to get in the ring with me before the shows at Collision, and that’s helped me a great deal.”
Following All In, Tony Khan stated that McGuinness would remain as an announcer despite the return to the ring.
