Does Gable Steveson Still Harbor “Hard Feelings” With WWE? Discusses Return Plan

WWE Gable Steveson

What does Gable Steveson currently feel for WWE after his release?

In 2021, after his Olympic gold-winning performance in Tokyo, amateur wrestler Gable Steveson signed a contract with WWE. With direct comparisons to Kurt Angle, fans had high hopes for the budding talent. However, Steveson failed to live up to his hype and was sidelined by WWE for a brief period before releasing him.

Kept off TV for some time, Steveson finally made his debut against Baron Corbin at an NXT taping but failed to showcase his wrestling ability. In May 2024, NXT released him as part of their talent cuts.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show, Gable Steveson discussed his WWE departure and whether he still harbors animosity toward the Stamford-based promotion.

Everything is good. There’s no hard feelings on my end. They knew at the time that I wanted to keep being competitive, and it was just a little bump in the road, and it happens. I’m not sure. We’ll just leave it as everything’s all good. There’s no tensions, there’s no animosity against anything. If the opportunity definitely came around in the future and I would love to put both feet back in and take off and go run with it, and I would love that. But business is always gonna be business.

You gotta take risks in your life, and some of the risks don’t work, and that one didn’t work, and there’s no problems with me, I’m hands-off, and time will always come back around hopefully, I stayed quiet just because there was no hard feelings when I did get let go, and there’s still no hard feelings now.

I have nothing to say about the business because when I sat down with Vince [McMahon] and Nick Khan and Triple H, it was all love, that’s when I first met them in 2021. From then on, there was no problems. I took it as a hit on the chin, a humbling experience, and you guys keep moving forward.”

Believing the timing to be not right, Steveson has moved on from the decision but is still hopeful for a future return to the promotion. He also discussed meeting Triple H and Nick Khan at the recent UFC 309 event, where they shared a brief discussion.

Obviously, it’s no hard feelings. It’s never bad blood. I did see Paul Levesque, Triple H, at the UFC event, and we had a brief convo, and everything was very civil and very nice.”

With no animosity, tension, or hard-feeling existing amidst all the names, Steveson believes if the stars align one day, he could be back at his former company.

Gable Steveson Teases WWE Return

Ahead of his return to the University of Minnesota on the Golden Gophers amateur wrestling team, Gable Steveson appeared at a press conference and teased his fans about a possible WWE return in the future.

I think WWE just wasn’t the right time. I had a lot of competitive edge to me, and they knew that. It was just not the time for it, and so maybe one day if the stars align, it’ll be a great opportunity to do it again. I have no bad feelings with it, I have no bad blood with it, and I would like to keep moving forward with everything.”
