A former WWE executive had nothing but praise for Naomi in spite of her WWE suspension.
On May 16th, Sasha Banks and Naomi shook the wresting world when they walked out of Monday Night Raw over an alleged creative dispute with Vince McMahon. The two had been scheduled to participate in a six-pack challenge to determine the next number one contender to face Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship, and surprising reports later indicated that Naomi would have won that match.
While the show was in progress, WWE released a statement claiming that the pair weren’t comfortable in the ring with two of their opponents, and felt their Women’s Tag Team Titles were being disrespected. Meanwhile, Corey Graves slammed the pair as “unprofessional” on commentary.
In the wake of their walkout, Banks and Naomi were stripped of their championships and suspended indefinitely without pay.
However, former WWE lead writer Road Dogg believes this behavior was out of character. Speaking on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast (available early via AdFreeShows), the WWE Hall of Famer praised the former SmackDown Women’s Champion and said she was easy to work with during his time with the company.
“Naomi is the greatest thing in the world to work with and she would do anything you ask her. She always had ideas and suggestions. When she was on SmackDown, she was the SmackDown Women’s Champion when I was writing the show, that’s for dang sure. A joy to work with and an entertaining young lady.”
On a previous episode of his podcast, Road Dogg questioned whether Naomi might be done with wrestling altogether after walking out of the company, though there has been no word that her status with WWE has changed since being suspended.
As for her former tag team partner Sasha Banks, reports have emerged that indicate The Boss has hired legal help to obtain her release from WWE. While some believe that she was actually released weeks ago, these reports have not been confirmed by the company.
