The second night of WWE WrestleMania 39 went off the air with Cody Rhodes sitting broken in the ring with only a rubber chicken for comfort after being pinned by Roman Reigns.
Many predicted that Rhodes would be the man to dethrone the Tribal Chief, but thanks to The Bloodline, the challenger came up short. The two men have since been drafted to different brands and the American Nightmare is currently being tormented by Brock Lesnar.
However, it had previously been reported that a rematch between the pair was “on the table” for WrestleMania 40 in Philidelphia. Although some welcome the possibility of Rhodes getting his moment to overcome Reigns, others are less than thrilled at the prospect of another year of Reigns’ dominance for that to happen.
Interestingly, it seems that there have also been conversations about a very different main event, this time featuring Gunther.
In a report on social media, WRKD Wrestling stated that Rhodes and Gunther have expressed a desire to work together and that discussions have taken place.
Gunther and Rhodes were the final two in the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match, which was eventually won the by second-generation star.
“While it’s still early, discussions have taken place for #WWERaw’s main event for WrestleMania 40 to potentially be Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther. Both superstars have expressed interest in working with each other in the past and are seen as the top face and heel on the Raw roster.”

Before Cody Rhodes can get to Gunther or even think about WrestleMania, he first needs to dispatch Brock Lesnar. Although he vanquished The Beast at Backlash, the pair are set to go to war one more time at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.
On the May 22nd episode of Raw, Rhodes was again beaten down by his fearsome challenger.
