Discussions Between Cody Rhodes & WWE Reportedly Broken Down

Cody Rhodes

While Cody Rhodes has been expected to re-join WWE following his AEW departure, a new report says that talks between the two have “fizzled out.”

Cody Rhodes shocked the world on February 15th when he and his wife Brandi announced that they were leaving AEW, a company they were instrumental in helping build during its inception. Tony Khan recently revealed that he had hoped to sign the couple to a longer deal, but they couldn’t come to terms on a new agreement.

Following his departure, reports soon began to indicate that Cody Rhodes was on his way back to WWE, where he last appeared in 2016. These rumors were fueled by WWE making several references to Rhodes on Monday Night Raw after the news had broken.

However, a new report from Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net indicates Cody’s return might not be as certain as once believed. The report states that while discussions between Rhodes and WWE had been ongoing, they are now said to have “fizzled out.” Sources also confirmed that Cody and Brandi departing AEW was very much a real life situation, and not a work as some have speculated.

Additionally, one source is reported to say that there’s hope that the Rhodeses can be brought back into the AEW fold. Haynes was told that an AEW return once again seems like a possibility, potentially with a role related to Tony Khan’s recent acquisition of Ring of Honor.

Cody Rhodes last appeared on AEW television on January 26th on the Beach Break edition of AEW Dynamite. He and Sammy Guevara faced off in a brutal ladder match to become the Undisputed TNT Champion, with Guevara victorious in the bout.
