The much-awaited Hulk Hogan biopic now has a final and disappointing update.
The director of Joker and Hangover, Todd Philips was slated to direct the Hogan biopic. However, a recent update states otherwise. First announced in 2019, and rumored to star Australian actor Chris Hemsworth in the titular role, the film never had any concrete update on it.
In a recent interview with Bret Lang of Variety, Philips confirmed that the project was scrapped. Both cinema and wrestling fans were excited to see the collaboration between Philips, Hemsworth, and Hogan himself who served as the consultant and executive producer. Speaking to Variety, Philips shared:
I love what we were trying to do, but that’s not going to come together for me.”
The film was rumored to portray the origin story of The Hulkster and his rise to the top in the 1980s. Previously slated to be produced by Netflix, Philips, and Bradley Cooper, Hulk Hogan shed some light on the project back in 2023, when he reported Netflix pulling out of the deal.
Reportedly Another Hulk Hogan Movie Is In The Works
Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant is reportedly set to direct another upcoming Hulk Hogan film. Rumored to be based on the Hogan vs Gawker lawsuit, the film is also rumored to include Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Although, Damon and Affleck’s contribution to the project is yet to be revealed. In 2012, Gawker published a private clip of Hogan with Heather Clem. The video contained intimate moments and a cease-and-desist order was soon sent by the former wrestler to Gawker. The upcoming film is rumored to be on this subject and the legal battle that followed.
At a recent Hulk Hogan event, one attendee was injured.
