Dexter Lumis will finally get his opportunity to challenge for NXT North American Championship, a title shot he originally earned all the way back in July.
William Regal announced on Twitter last night that current North American champion Damian Priest would defend his title against Lumis on tonight’s episode of NXT. Lumis was originally set to participate in the North American Title Ladder match at TakeOver XXX after defeating Timothy Thatcher and Finn Balor in a triple threat qualifying match.
However, Lumis injured his ankle over the course of the gruelling match and was unable to compete, being replaced by Johnny Gargano in the ladder match and disappearing off NXT TV for just over two months. NXT’s ‘Tortured Artist’ made his return on the September 30th episode confronting Cameron Grimes in a backstage segment.
Both men have been fairly dominant as of late: Dexter Lumis defeated NXT up-start Austin Theory last week in a back-and-forth contest whilst Damian Priest retained his North American Championship over Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver 31 on October 4th. Priest has been open to taking on all challengers and with Lumis never receiving his due title shot, it was only a matter of time before the two collided.
