New details have emerged regarding Dark Match, a new horror film starring Chris Jericho.
Back in April, Variety reported that Chris Jericho was set to star in a new wrestling-themed action horror film. The film is set in the 1980’s, and according to IMDB, the synopsis is as follows:
A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match.
Dark Match is being released by Blue Finch Films and is directed by Lowell Dean. In addition to Jericho, the cast includes Sarah Canning, Michael Eklund and Steven Ogg. Jericho is also listed as Executive Producer of the movie alongside Eleanor Wiebe.
Now, PWInsider reports that the film is set to be released on Shudder on January 31st, 2025. A trailer for the movie was released in August and can be seen below.
Chris Jericho Riding High After The Success Of Terrifier 3
Dark Match is far from Jericho’s first foray into the world of horror movies. The former AEW World Champion had a cameo role in 2022’s Terrifier 2 and returned for the recently-released Terrifier 3, which has seen great box office success.
In a recent interview with JoBlo Celebrity Interviews, the AEW star stated that he discovered the original Terrifier while on tour with Fozzy when it was still a niche movie. After being cast in the second installment, Jericho would often speak about the film on his podcast, and he takes some credit for helping the franchise grow:
“I was a big fan of the first movie. We discovered it on the Fozzy tour bus, and I was the first person that I knew was talking about it. So I was going on Talk is Jericho, my podcast, and letting everybody know about this movie that you have to see because I have a big horror fan contingency for the show. Then I did a Comic-Con horror con, I guess, where David was there and he was on Talk Is Jericho. That’s kind of how it all started. I was like, you guys got to watch this movie, Terrifier this, Terrifier that.
I’d like to think that I was part of the grassroots movement to turn people onto this film, and then, once it became kind of a talked about cult hit when Damien started talking about doing part two, he asked me if I wanted to be involved, and I was like, of course. Just tell me what time and what mental institution in Staten Island I have to be at.” (h/t Fightful)
With contracts being a prominent feature of 2024, here is when Chris Jericho’s AEW deal will expire.
