Chelsea Green returned to WWE at the Royal Rumble 2023, and she was an instant hit, as fans clamored for a strong push for her.
However, the company took its time to coronate her with a championship, and despite her becoming the inaugural Women’s United States Champion, one could argue that she has not received her true moment in the spotlight yet. Despite this, she performs at an elite level, and her character work is impeccable, with her minute facial expressions putting her above many of her peers.
While the sports entertainment juggernaut has not pulled the trigger on Green yet, there was a point when Chief Content Officer Triple H and his team of creatives came close to doing just that. And it was evidently for this year’s Royal Rumble, which marked her second anniversary in WWE since her remarkable return.
Chelsea Green Was Pitched To Win The WWE Royal Rumble 2025 In The Strangest Way Possible
The Women’s Royal Rumble Match was incorporated into the annual opening PLE of the year in 2018. Since then, there has only been one two-time winner: Charlotte Flair.
Flair’s second win came earlier this year, which was presented as an underdog story. The Queen was forced to take over a year off to nurse injuries, rehab, and, along with all this, she went through a supposedly painful breakup with her former husband, Andrade. Despite all of this, her story did not resonate with the fans the way WWE had probably hoped it might have.
It was learned through WWE: Unreal that during the early discussions, a bizarre alternate idea was proposed. Before participant #30 entered the fray, all 29 women were going to get eliminated, with the penultimate two participants ending up on the floor before Chelsea Green walked out as the last entrant. Thus, winning the Royal Rumble by default.
The crew laughed and even exclaimed, “That’s it!” However, that did not come to fruition, and the event unfolded in the manner the WWE Universe witnessed it.
Chelsea Green became the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion on December 14 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. While the win etched her name in the history books, her reign was not as memorable. She ended up dropping the belt to Zelina Vega after 131 days. Curiously, Vega ended up being a transitional champion as the former LWO star fell to Giulia in 62 days, who is now in possession of the title.
Whether Chelsea Green’s entertainment value and incredible ability to connect with the WWE Universe get rewarded in the near future bears watching.
