More Details On Jon Moxley’s AEW Contract Extension

Jon Moxley on AEW Dynamite

Jon Moxley is All Elite, and will be until 2027.

Just before AEW Rampage and Battle of the Belts IV on Friday night, AEW released a press release that announced Jon Moxley had signed a five-year contract extension with the company, and he will also be expanding his role to coaching and mentoring.

However, we now have new details about Moxley’s contract from Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, who clarified some confusion on the situation:

“Jon Moxley re-signed with AEW for a five year deal that carries him through 2027, the company has announced. Several sources indicated that Jon Moxley had been working at some point without a contract, but Fightful has not confirmed that.

However, when we repeatedly asked about his contract status throughout the summer, we were told it was “quite a situation,” and were also told that AEW would do whatever it took to keep him with the company for the rest of his career.

It goes without saying that AEW has worked to make a big investment in Moxley. An interesting aspect of the deal was that it mentioned Moxley would exclusively wrestle for AEW and its international partners, including NJPW. Moxley has regularly wrestled for GCW, REVOLVER, and made appearances for NEW.

AEW wouldn’t comment on what this meant for his status with any of those companies, and when we reached out to GCW, they weren’t even aware of the press release until it happened, and weren’t sure what that meant for his status there.

Moxley has a title vs. career match with Nick Gage Saturday in GCW. In addition, it was stated that Moxley’s role would expand into coaching and mentoring. Moxley helped lead a talent meeting after All Out that was positively received.

Not that it’s much of a surprise, but most all of the talent we’ve heard from spoke highly of Moxley’s influence and how much weight his words carried. We’d also heard that the Moxley-led talent meetings (along with Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson) were very well received.”

Jon Moxley is scheduled to defend the AEW World Championship in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio against “Hangman” Adam Page on a special Tuesday edition of AEW Dynamite on October 18. Airing on TBS, the action kicks off at 8:00 PM ET.
