Deonna Purrazzo has teased a potential challenge for the Ring of Honor Women’s Championship.
The current IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts Champion appears keen to add more gold to her collection, with a forthcoming Champion vs Champion bout scheduled for TripleMania against current Reina de Reinas champion Faby Apache.
Having recently made a successful debut for AAA ahead of that clash, it now appears that ‘The Virtuosa’ has her eyes set on yet another prize.
In a recent appearance on Stu’s Wrestling Podcast, Purrazzo stated her desire to challenge for ROH’s rebooted women’s title and discussed her time as part of the early days of the division:
I wanted the world for that entire division. That was my and Mandy Leon’s little baby. ‘How can we start a women’s division?’ because women’s wrestling hadn’t been a thing in Ring of Honor in so many years. To have that first match and be credited for the rebirth of Women of Honor was really special. To see what it grew into and getting a Women of Honor Championship tournament was really special. Obviously, there were downfalls to that and they’ve had to reboot but to see Maria Kanellis taking what that little baby was and now it’s exploded. There’s another championship tournament, Chelsea just debuted, and I’m excited for what the possibilities are for that because I got to start it. If there was an opportunity to go back to Ring of Honor and become their women’s champion, that would be fun too
ROH will crown their new women’s champion at the Death Before Dishonour pay per view in September, which will see the culmination of a 16 woman tournament that includes the likes of Allysin Kay, Alex Gracia and Angelina Love.
Purrazzo does have more pressing concerns however as she is set to defend her belt at Slammiversary this weekend against a mystery opponent.
