WWE Hall Of Famer DDP has lifted the lid on Goldberg refusing to take part in a famous spot in WCW that saw Diamond Dallas Page avoid the dreaded spear.
DDP and Goldberg met in the main event of Halloween Havoc in 1998 where they battled over the WCW World Championship. As the match reached its crescendo Goldberg went for his patented spear but DDP hopped over the top rope causing the former football star to crash into the ring post.
Speaking to Stone Cold Steve Austin on his Broken Skull Sessions, DDP explained why the spot nearly never happened as Goldberg was adamant that he didn’t miss the spear:
“I said, ‘Listen, Goldie, I’ve got the psychology of this match laid out and you’re gonna miss your first spear. ‘No, I’m not.’ I said, ‘No, bro, trust me, you are.’ He’s like, ‘I don’t miss the spear, bro. That’s my spot.’ I go, ‘That’s why you’ve gotta miss the spear.’ He didn’t agree with me until right before we did it.”
“It’s not him not wanting to play ball. It’s him being one of the most competitive human beings on the planet. So when he’s coming, I’m like, ‘Oh my God!’ and I just throw myself over the rope.”
During the two men’s conversation, Steve Austin also recalled the time he saw DDP heading home with a barbecue grill while still in his nightclothes.
