After losing the IWGP World Tag Team Titles back in January, Dax Harwood revealed that he and Cash Wheeler would be taking a break from the ring.
Furthermore, their contracts with AEW would be up in April, meaning they may have wrestled their last match for the company. However, the pair made a shock return to the promotion at Revolution on March 5th where they confronted Tag Team Champions The Gunns.
This was followed by reports that FTR was locked into long-term deals, although Harwood has since insisted nothing has changed regarding their contractual situation.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Inside The Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh, Harwood reiterated that he has no idea what comes next for the popular tag team. The star went on to break down how Vince McMahon’s return to WWE could have complicated the issue, given he was no fan of their look and how they spoke.
“Oh, yeah. 100% for sure. And the reason honestly, dude look, the reason I can’t tell you what I want to do is because honest to God, I don’t know. I don’t, there, I’ve said about, talked about it on my podcast, there’s something I want to do with my brain, and there’s something I want to do with my heart. And they’ve gotten beat in the middle. And right now they’re not because they’re two opposite things.
But the Vince McMahon question? Yeah, for sure. I mean, there are pros. And I mean, there’s comparing and contrasting Vince and Tony, there’s so much that they are alike with, but there’s so many things they’re also different with. And I’ve made it pretty public that when we were there, Vince McMahon was not a huge fan of us, aesthetically, and how we look and how we speak.
He loved our work, he would tell us all the time, he loved our work. But for him that doesn’t equals dollars and cents. Also, on top of that he’s not a fan of tag team wrestling as you can still, you know, you could see towards the end of his tenure there. So that absolutely 100% makes me think, worry, wonder what would happen if I go there.
On the flip side, you’ve got Tony Khan, a man who’s obviously successful in his business ventures, obviously as super passionate just as, maybe this is a revelation, and some people may scoff at this, maybe more hard working than Vince. Because he’s got AEW, he’s got the soccer league, he’s got the Jaguars, he’s got so much stuff on his plate.
I have text him and gotten texts from him from 8am until 8am the next morning, you know what I mean? I don’t know if he ever sleeps. But he is so hard working and so passionate. But you know, there are also some things that I don’t agree with there as well. So it’s, it’s either way. Again, there’s pros and cons to whatever decision we make and the Vince situation is pretty intense for me.”
Dax Harwood Reflects On “Beautiful” Gesture From Jim Cornette
Elsewhere during the interview, Harwood opened up about his gratitude to Jim Cornette and his wife Stacey. Harwood revealed that the pair had made a significant donation to charity in the name of his daughter Finley after she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.
