FTR – Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler – are widely considered the best tag team active today. They’ve had many outstanding matches since coming to AEW and many fans believe they deserve top billing for their contributions to pro-wrestling.
But not everyone is or has been happy with the duo formerly known as The Revival coming to AEW, even though it was largely a given once they were released from WWE. In fact, Dax Harwood shared a direct example of someone in AEW being unhappy with him and Wheeler coming to Tony Khan’s upstart promotion
Dax Harwood thought that he and Cash arriving to AEW would create disharmony
Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler debuted in AEW in May 2020 after months of speculation and years of teasing from The Elite and their friends. FTR distinguished themselves from the rest of AEW’s tag team division by wrestling in a different style, one more reminiscent of the medium’s more psychology-driven past (hence their WWE name, ‘The Revival’).
Their uniqueness and different approach to tag team wrestling was welcomed by the fans who were excited to see them wrestle the way they wanted. At the same time, however, those already in AEW’s locker room weren’t too happy to see Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler arrive.
Speaking on his FTR Podcast, Dax Harwood explained how one person already being pushed by AEW was particularly unhappy with FTR showing up. It took Dax Harwood sitting down and talking with him to iron things out and explain how FTR’s arrival wasn’t going to upset the harmony that was in place in AEW’s locker room.
“When me and Cash came into AEW, there weren’t very many people that were happy to see us there. For example, he and I’ve talked about it, but Jack Perry was not happy to see us because he thought that me and Cash were going to come in and change up his whole style and, and try to make him someone he’s not.
So, it’s not just CM Punk, it’s just whenever you have harmony and a locker room and things are going well, change is kind of hard for people. So yeah, there were a lot of people that were worried about it.”
